There are two types of universities in turkey: public universities and private ones. Turkish students should have the national university exam which is prepared as two sections by Higher Education Council, and after that they get their score they create their prefferred university list, they are accepted by one of them. Naturally to get acceptance from private universities are much easier. In case the score of the student is acceptable by the university students might enroll the university by transferring the school fee.
Today we see many Turkish universities in first 1000 of world university ranking so it is possible to say that they provide a very good level of education and the sufficiency of academicians are quiet high.
Regarding to foreign students, if we talk about public universities, we could say each university prepares its own YÖS (Foreign Student Exam) exam. Whoever achieves this exam after providing the suffieciency in Turkish language and getting TÖMER diploma they are accepted to the university. Even if the conditions of being accepted to well known universities are more difficult than being accepted to newer universities, we can say that there is no comparison between Turkish students’ requirements and foreign students’ requirements. Of course living in small cities is much easier than living in bigger cities in terms of life expenses and many private universities open their doors to foreign students especially to the degrees in English by evaluating their transcription, the sufficiency in English and of course the financial situation of his/her sponsor without asking for TÖMER diploma and YÖS exam result.
